Two winners of the Golden Slipper are in the immediate pedigree of Excellerator, the
winner at Randwick on Saturday of the Group1 Epsom Handicap. Both former champion
Australian sires from use at the Widden Stud, they are Excellerator's sire Marscay
and the sire of his grandam,Vain.
Bred by Geoff and Beryl White under the banner of Bhima Stud, Scone, Excellerator
is the fifth foal and first stakes winner from the non-winning Artless, a daughter
of the Northern Dancer France Group1 winner Dahar (by Lyphard) and Paris Look, a
very smart two-year-old by Vain, the Wilkes colt which won the 1969 Golden Slipper
by four lengths.
Vain went on to sire the Slipper winners of1983 and 1984, Sir Dapper and Inspired,
and also Vaindarra, the runner up to Marscay, a horse raced by the Whites, in1982.
Marscay also left his imprint on the Slipper, siring the 1993 winner Bint Marscay and
three second placegetters including Excellerator, the runner up to Ha Ha when favourite
in 2001. Marscay is also sire of the dam of the Danehill1999 Slipper winner Catbird.
Excellerator has now run on17 occasions for seven wins and five seconds and earnings of
just under $2million. His success in the Epsom was the second leg of a Group double for
mares now owned by the Whites, the other mare being Mannerism, the dam of Manner Hill,
the winner of the Craven Plate. Manner Hill was produced for the Northwood Stud,Victoria,
before being acquired by the Whites.
