Geoff and Beryl White of Invermien,Scone, would have enjoyed the finish of the $330,000 Group1 George Main Stakes at Randwick on Saturday. Although they are not involved with the ownership of the winner, Defier, and runner up Excellerator, both horses carry their familiar R over L brand.
They sold them at Magic Millions Yearling sales at the Gold Coast, Defier, a son of champion American two-year-old Dehere, realising $80,000 in1999, and Excellerator, a son of the horse that won the1982 Golden Slipper for the Whites, Marscay, making $50,000 in 2000. Marscay contributes to both pedigrees as he is the sire of the dam of Defier.
Defier is now up to $1,352,000 in prize money and the Gai Waterhouse trained Excellerator has over $1.6million on the board. He won the Cameron at Newcastle on September18 and was second to Ha Ha in the 2001 Golden Slipper after winning the Magic Millions earlier in the year.
