Broodmares Invermien’s primary focus of breeding to race involves the need to produce horses with consistency, longevity, versatility and soundness. Ignoring commercial trends we are allowed to select stallions that provide the above, not solely aiming to produce a champion but to produce a ready flow of bread and butter horses. Invermien has invested in stallions that can provide the above, preferably with colonial bloodlines and racing experience, increasing their progeny’s adaptability to the polarized conditions of Australia’s climate. Invermien have shareholdings in the following stallions: California Dane Canny Lad Collate Charge Forward Danasinga Danzero Delago Brom Excites Sebring Snippetson Southern Image Starcraft The broodmare band has continued to number around 30, through continual evaluation of results leading to either culling or retaining fillies with attributes to suit our parameters. We do not necessarily have a band of mares that are commercially appealing but in the main provide type and attributes aimed at producing on track results. This year around 80% of our mares are nine years or under with foals of quality or racetrack experience that increase their chances of producing this quality. We have lost some of our great foundation mares recently, namely Triscay, and her dam Tristram Lady, and Orwhina. There are a fair number of families we do concentrate on developing whilst also trialling new bloodlines. Our 2009 mare list and foaling expectations are below.
